Some ideas to share

I have now finish module 3. And i have some thoughts to share.

1 - Wont be useful to have an organization as a group of courses. Ex: my institute i teach 3 different subjects to the same classroom. It d be great to have a higher level o supra organization. so i dont have to add students every time i create an assignment or publish materials… Can be a request feature in the future ?

2 - As mentioned above, have the students of my classroom have a github account ? Should be before i create the assignment o can be after ?

3 - In an assignment once the deadline is past, can the teacher watch the repository of the student in order to watch their progress, if they have made only one commit it d be suspicious… I understand from the module that before the deadline a teacher can review different repos from students…Im also interested after the deadline.

4 - Is there any way to copy/share students between different courses/subjects ?

Thanks for you work

You can easily copy paste a roster of names, student Id’s, etc, into your roster management in Classrooms. Having a higher level organisation would probably be nice, however you’d probably end up assigning courses instead of students in that case.
Do note that you don’t have to add students every time, you only add them once in the created classrooms, the roster will remain the same for every following assignment, materials published, etc.

In Classrooms the students don’t need to have a Github account yet in order for you to add them to the Classroom. You can work with a list of names, they’ll do the linking of their account the moment they follow your first assignment link. This saves you the hassle of obtaining all GitHub account details per student.

You can watch the repository of any student at any point in time, even after the deadline.

A little in line with what I’ve written on questions 1 and 2, you can copy paste the student info into the roster of the Classroom you’re working with. So I’d say copy yes, sharing/duplicating isn’t an option available at the moment.

Hope this helps you a litte

Thanks for your reply and sorry for my english…

1 - When in assignment the deadline date has passed, you told me i can access always to my students repos, but also to the history and commits and branches, to track their work… or just the last commit ? This is what i understood from the module 3 lesson…Maybe id fail…

2 - I think that a supra organization would be more logical, as moodle or not to ask for papers every time a course begins. Also the name is not clear. Should be course or subject, an organization suggests some institute or University or Academy…And thats the organizaction should have an address and a web page…

More than welcome and no problem at all!

You will have access to the full repository, so you’ll be able to browse through all the commits they’ve made.

I’ve named all my Organisations for the past year 1718-NameOfModule-GroupX that’s currently for me the best way to keep track of things. But you’re of course free to choose whatever works best for you.
