GitHub Education $1000 Hackathon Grant

Hi All,

I am organizing a virtual hackathon for people at my university and in the community. The GitHub Education Student webpage mentions there is a $1000 grant for first-time hackathons like the one I am planning. However, when I click “Apply for grant” the link takes me to MLH’s website. I am already in the process of applying to become an MLH member event, but I couldn’t see any reference to this grant on their website.

Can someone provide me with more information about this and who would be the best person to talk to about this? Did someone receive this funding before?

Your help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Kamal Ali

Hi Mate
Great hear you’ll be organizing a student hackathon! The first-time hackathon grant is not currently available for any event due to the changes in the needs events have in a virtual format. You can still get great benefits from being an MLH member event that will help you while organizing the event in this format.

Best,

Hello!

We were planning to do something similar like Ali is trying to do. Do you have any idea when the grant will be back?

Thank you!

As of today, we don’t have any estimated time for relaunching the Hackathon Grant. Would recommend following GitHub Education and MLH for news about the grant and new opportunities that arise in the future.
