But this link goes to the default web page and doesn’t’ provide an update or any information regarding the status of my application.

Still I have not got any mail about my GitHub Campus Expert application by GitHub team.
We rolled a change in the landing page to make it more clear. Thanks for pointing this out.

I think you can just go to this link (https://apply.githubcampus.expert/status) and log into your account to see your status. I hope it will solve your issue.
